Philadelphia Firebirds (ice hockey)

The Philadelphia Firebirds were an American ice hockey franchise in the American Hockey League in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The venue for the Firebirds was the Philadelphia Civic Center.

History

The Philadelphia Firebirds was founded in 1974 as a franchise of the North American Hockey League. Her biggest success reached the Firebirds when they Lockhart Cup won in the 1975/76 season as the playoff winner in the NAHL. After the league in 1977, was disbanded changed the Firebirds along with the Broome Dusters in the American Hockey League, where the team from Philadelphia ever a game while playing as a farm team of the Detroit Red Wings and the Colorado Rockies of the National Hockey League and in their first AHL season (1977 /78) immediately reached the playoffs, where they with 1:3 wins the New Haven Nighthawks subject in the first round.

After the team had missed the playoffs in the 1979/80 season, the franchise to Syracuse, New York, was relocated to where it was active as Syracuse Firebirds in the AHL in the season 1979 /80.
