Long Island Cougars

The Long Iceland Cougars were an American ice hockey franchise in the North American Hockey League from Commack, New York.

History

The Long Iceland Cougars were established for 1973/74 season as a franchise in the inaugural North American Hockey League. They filled the gap that was created in the city by the dissolution of the Long Iceland Ducks of the Eastern Hockey League. The Long Iceland Cougars were the farm team of the Chicago Cougars of the World Hockey Association. In its premiere season, the Long Iceland Cougars reached immediately the finals of the playoffs for the Lockhart Cup. In this they were subject to the Syracuse Blazers in the best- of-seven series with a 0-4 victory. After another season put the team after just two years, the play mode again.
