St. Catharines Saints

The St. Catharines Saints were a Canadian ice hockey franchise in the American Hockey League from St. Catharines, Ontario. The venue of the Saints was the Garden City Arena.

History

The St. Catharines Saints were founded in 1982 by the Toronto Maple Leafs as their new farm team as a franchise of the American Hockey League. After the team in its first season, yet missed the playoffs, the playoffs reached the Saints in the 1983/84 season for the first time in the franchise history to the Calder Cup, subject to there, however, already in the first round of the Rochester Americans with 3:4 victories. This was followed by another year without playoff participation of the Saints, before St. Catharines in the 1985/86 season just with 3:4 victories failed only in the second playoff round to the Hershey Bears.

Following this season, the Toronto Maple Leafs ended their farm team to Newmarket, Ontario to resettle, where, under the name Newmarket Saints was henceforth active in the AHL.
