Columbus Cottonmouths

The Columbus Cottonmouths are an American ice hockey team from Columbus, Georgia. The team plays since the 2004/ 05 season in the Southern Professional Hockey League.

History

The Columbus Cottonmouths were established in 1996 as a franchise of the Central Hockey League. Originally, the team was provided as an expansion franchise for the Southern Hockey League, but the CHL joined by their resolution. Columbus, which in all five seasons in which it was active in the CHL, each reached the playoffs, won in the 1997/98 season the Miron Cup after it in the finals, the Wichita Thunder with a sweep in the best- of- Seven series beat. Following the abolition of the two local rivals Macon Whoopee and Huntsville Channel Cats, the Cottonmouths changed in 2001 in the East Coast Hockey League, where they were three years running. In this they missed the playoffs in each case to the Kelly Cup.

Originally wanted the owners to relocate the franchise in 2004 to Florida. However, since this failed due to lack of funding, the Cottonmouths finally changed in the Southern Professional Hockey League, whose championship they won in the 2004/05 season. As of 2006, retired Columbus three times in a row each in the first playoff round out before the team again reached the final series in the season 2010/11 and the Mississippi Surge subject. In the season 2011/12, including the second championship title was won in the Southern Professional Hockey League, as the team finished after victories over the Louisiana IceGators, Huntsville Havoc and Pensacola Ice Flyers the final round without defeat and the President's Cup secured.
