History

The Topeka Scarecrows were established in 1998 as a franchise of the Central Hockey League. In their first season they finished the regular season in fourth place in the West Division. In the subsequent playoffs for the Miron Cup they lost to the later Finalist Oklahoma City Blazers in the first round in the best- of-three series with a sweep. In their second and final playoff participation, they lost in the season 2002/ 03 with 1:3 wins the San Antonio Iguanas. Subsequently, the team whose head coach was continuously Canadian Paul Kelly in the three years of its existence, was sold and played among other owners until 2003 in the Junior League United States Hockey League. After the club in the season 2003/ 04 came into office as St. Louis Heartland Eagles in the USHL, he was finally dissolved.

The gap left by the departure of the Topeka Scarecrows in the city, was filled by the Topeka Tarantulas who competed in the 2004/05 season in the Central Hockey League.
