Winston-Salem Polar Twins

The Winston-Salem Polar Twins were an American ice hockey team from Winston- Salem, North Carolina. The team played in the 2004/05 season in the Southern Professional Hockey League.

History

The team was founded in 2004 as a franchise of the inaugural Southern Professional Hockey League. Previously played with the Winston -Salem T -birds a team from Winston- Salem in the South East Hockey League, one of the two predecessor leagues in the SPHL, in the season 2003/ 04. The Winston-Salem Polar Twins were named after an eponymous team from the Southern Hockey League. In her only season the team won only 14 of their 56 games and finished it in eighth and last place. In order for the team missed the playoffs the SPHL significantly. Subsequently, the franchise was dissolved after only one season again. The gap left by the Polar Twins in the city, was filled by the Twin City Cyclones in 2007.
