Winston-Salem T-birds

The Winston -Salem T -birds were an American ice hockey team from Winston- Salem, North Carolina. The team played in the 2003/04 season in the South East Hockey League.

History

The team was founded in 2003 as a franchise of the inaugural South East Hockey League. The team got its name based on the Winston -Salem Thunderbirds, who were from 1989 to 1992 under this name in the ECHL active. In her only season the T -birds occupied the fourth place in the SEHL after the regular season. Thus, they were the only team in the league, which missed the playoffs. When the league was disbanded after one year, also featured the T -birds a game operation.

The gap left by the T -birds in Winston -Salem, was filled by the Winston -Salem Polar Twins, who took part in the 2004/05 season in the game operation of the Southern Professional Hockey League.
