2003–04 ECHL season

The 2003/04 season was the 16th regular season of the ECHL. The 31 teams completed in the regular season per 72 encounters. The point of best team in the regular season were the San Diego Gulls, while the Idaho Steelheads won in the play-offs, their first Kelly Cup ever. The league was significantly increased due to the dissolution of the West Coast Hockey League and expanded westward, so you officially from East Coast Hockey League changed the name of the League in the abbreviation ECHL. In addition, however, five teams from the ECHL stopped the game operation.

Team changes

The following changes were made before the start of the season:

  • The Arkansas River Blades stopped the game operation.
  • The Baton Rouge Kingfish stopped the game operation.
  • The Jackson Bandits stopped the game operation.
  • The Lexington Men O'War stopped the game operation.
  • The Richmond Renegades stopped the game operation.
  • The Anchorage Aces of the defunct West Coast Hockey League were included as an expansion team in the league and changed their name to Alaska Aces.
  • The Bakersfield Condors of the disbanded West Coast Hockey League were included as an expansion team in the league.
  • The Fresno Falcons of the disbanded West Coast Hockey League were included as an expansion team in the league.
  • The Idaho Steelheads of the West Coast Hockey League resolved were included as an expansion team in the league.
  • The Long Beach Ice Dogs of the defunct West Coast Hockey League were included as an expansion team in the league.
  • The San Diego Gulls of the defunct West Coast Hockey League were included as an expansion team in the league.
  • The Gwinnett Gladiators were added as an expansion team in the league.
  • The Las Vegas Wranglers were added as an expansion team in the league.
  • The Texas Wildcatters were added as an expansion team in the league.
  • The Pee Dee Pride changed their name for this season in Florence Pride.
