Louisville Shooting Stars

The Louisville Shooting Stars were an American ice hockey franchise in the International Hockey League from Louisville, Kentucky. The venue of the Shooting Stars were the Louisville Gardens.

History

The Louisville Shooting Stars were founded in 1953 as a franchise of the International Hockey League. In its first and only season the Shooting Stars reached in the season 1953/54, the eighth and thus penultimate place in the IHL. In 64 games, the team reached there only 40 points, making them already 21 points lacking to eighth place on the Grand Rapids Rockets were. Only the Milwaukee Chiefs were still unsuccessful with 29 points. For this reason, the franchise was dissolved after just one year. The void that this left in the city, was closed by the Louisville Rebels, who participated in the operation of the game IHL from 1957 to 1960 and won in the season 1958/59 the only team from Kentucky to the Turner Cup.
