Kari Korhonen

Kari Korhonen ( born October 8, 1973 in Espoo ) is a Finnish cartoonist and author, best known for his work at Disney. He is regarded as one of the leading comic artists in Finland.

Life and work

Korhonen began as a child to draw comics. His parents subscribed for him Aku Ankka, a series of booklets about the Finnish version of Donald Duck. In school, he put an emphasis on the subject of art. At home he spent a lot of time with drawing "funny animals". That should be his focus during his work as a professional artist. In his profession he is an autodidact.

Since 1992, Korhonen worked as a cartoonist, illustrator and commercial artist, also illustrated children's books and recorded for national Finnish Helsingin Sanomat newspapers such. In addition, he developed comics and storyboards for television, especially for commercials. For the Finnish licensee for Disney products, he first designed merchandise. So he came in contact with the Danish media company Egmont, parent company of Egmont Ehapa publisher and rights holder for Disney comics in many European countries. Since 1993, he has been mainly working for the creative department in Copenhagen. Among his favorite Disney characters belongs next to Donald Duck especially Scrooge McDuck, in Finnish Roope Ankka. In addition to the well-known Disney main characters he developed stories about the young Donald Duck ( Duck Donny ) after coming from Italy Disney series Paperino Paper Otto ( in Finnish Pikku - Aku ). According to the Ehapa publisher Korhonen developed most Donny Duck Tales. Increasingly, he is working as an author. He works together with well-known Disney artists like Ignasi Calvet Esteban and Maximino Tortajada Auguilar.

Artistic models Korhonen are Carl Barks, Daniel Branca, Daan Jippes and Romano Scarpa. According to his publisher, he often works primarily in developing complete comic stories with scribbles. A hallmark of Korhonen is that it occasionally as a comic figure in the stories distinguished himself into it, sitting with Sailor Hat in Donald Duck - style on the drawing board.
