Kari Tapio

Kari Tapio ( born November 22, 1945 in Suonenjoki, † December 7, 2010 in Espoo, real name Kari Tapani Jalkanen ) was a Finnish pop singer, and for several decades one of the most famous singers in his home country.

Life

In the 1960s, Kari Tapio appeared in his later residence Pieksämäki with local music groups " ER Quartet " and " Jami & The Noisemakers ," In 1966, he began taking singing lessons with Ture Ara.

After his first single " Tuuli kääntyköön " / " Niskavuoren nuorimmainen " (1972) Kari Tapio joined Ilkka " Danny" Lipsanens on the show, where he first took care to only one snake used in the show. His main job was working as a typesetter in a print shop.

In 1976, Kari Tapio finally had his breakthrough with the single " Laula kanssain " ( "Sing with me " ), followed by " Viisitoista kesää " ( "Fifteen Summer ") and " Kaipuu " ( " Request"). In the following years were " Olen Suomalainen " ("I am Finn " ), a cover of the hit L' Italiano Toto Cutugno of, " jälkeen Myrskyn " ( " After the Storm "), " En pyydä paljon " ( " I do not expect much ") and most recently" Paalupaikka " ( " first Place "), his most successful songs.

In 1999 he received a first time Emma, the Finnish equivalent of the Grammy, for Best Male Artist and was awarded in the same year with the honor - Emma. In 2003 he was honored with the Iskelmä Finlandia Prize. In 2004 he received for the album Toiset on luotuja kulkemaan another Emma for best album of the year and 2005 was followed by another award for best male artist.

Many of Kari Tapios songs are influenced by country music. He has also written Finnish versions of some songs by Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Kris Kristofferson.

Kari Tapio was one of the candidates at the Finnish preselection for the Euro Vision Song Contest 2008, where he performed the song " Valaise yö ". However, he only reached the second place behind the group Teräsbetoni which is then started for Finland in the Euro Vision Song Contest 2008 in Belgrade.

Tapio took on the evening of 6 December 2010 on the traditional reception at the Presidential Palace in part on the occasion of the Finnish National Day. On the evening of 7 December he went in a taxi on the way home and died at about 18.30 clock during the journey of a heart attack.
