Karl Gildemeister

Charles Gildemeister ( born October 11, 1820 Bremen, † February 8, 1869 ) was a German architect.

Life

Karl's father was Johann Carl Friedrich GUILD MASTER (1779 - 1849), who later became Senator, and his wife Verena Thibeta PRIDE ( 1795-1841 ).

After a practical training at Jacob Ephraim Polzin, Gildemeister first visited the Polytechnic University in Karlsruhe and then the Berlin Academy of Architecture. He undertook study trips to Italy and Greece. Between about 1849 and 1857, he worked in New York. For the Exhibition of the Industry of All Nations (1853 ) in New York Charles Gildemeister and Georg Carstensen built in 1852 a crystal palace, but as early as 1858 a major fire fell victim. In Bremen he was, until his untimely death, a teacher at the commercial art school ( a school of applied arts ). It is known its historical allowance from Bremen Town Hall and its market place view.

Charles Gildemeister was the son of Senator Carl Friedrich Johann Gildemeister, brother of Mayor Otto Gildemeister and son of the architect Jacob Ephraim Polzin.
