Karl Hoffmann (naturalist)

Karl Hoffmann ( born December 7, 1823 in Stettin, † May 11 1859 in Puntarenas) was a German physician and naturalist.

Life

Hoffmann studied at the Berlin University. In 1853 he traveled with Alexander von Frantzius to Costa Rica to collect organisms. In 1856, during the invasion under William Walker, he served as a doctor in the Costa Rican army. 1859 Hoffmann died of typhoid fever in Puntarenas.
