Karl Mecklenburg Bernard ( born September 1, 1960 in Seattle, Washington, USA) is an American former American football player. He has played as a linebacker in the National Football League ( NFL ) for the Denver Broncos.

Playing career

The German -born Mecklenburg first played at the Augustana College and then moved to the Minnesota Golden Gophers, the football team of the University of Minnesota. Mecklenburg was very late obliged Draft 1983 in the NFL. Only in the twelfth round he was drawn to 310 place by the Broncos. This late commitment first made him no hope of a great professional career, especially since his head coach Dan Reeves initially did not sit on him and put him only sporadically.
