Karl Mecklenburg Bernard ( born September 1, 1960 in Seattle, Washington, USA) is an American former American football player. He has played as a linebacker in the National Football League ( NFL ) for the Denver Broncos.
Playing career
The German -born Mecklenburg first played at the Augustana College and then moved to the Minnesota Golden Gophers, the football team of the University of Minnesota. Mecklenburg was very late obliged Draft 1983 in the NFL. Only in the twelfth round he was drawn to 310 place by the Broncos. This late commitment first made him no hope of a great professional career, especially since his head coach Dan Reeves initially did not sit on him and put him only sporadically. It was not until his third year, he was first-team regular. Mecklenburg came not only as a linebacker for use, but was also used as a player of the defensive line. He developed into one of the best defensive players in the history of the Denver Broncos. Honors
Mecklenburg played six times in the Pro Bowl, the final game of the best players of the season. He was five times voted All-Pro and is a member of the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame and immortalized on the Denver Broncos Ring of Fame.
