Karl Miller

Charles Miller ( born 1931 ) is a British literary critic, editor and writer.

He attended the Royal School of Edinburgh and Downing College, Cambridge. He was literary editor of The Spectator and the New Statesman. From the latter position Miller resigned because he was the editor of Paul Johnson could not agree to what extent the literary magazine should be open to difficult issues. Another point of contention was Johnson's dislike of the Beatles and their fans ( Berry 214).

Miller was then from 1967 to 1973 editor of The Listener and from 1979 to 1992 the London Review of Books, which he founded. From 1974 to 1992 he was also professor of modern English literature at University College London.
