Karl Müller (bryologist)

Karl ( John August) Müller (Müller Hallensis ) ( born December 16, 1818 in Altstedt, Thuringia, † February 9, 1899 in Halle ( Saale) ) was a German Bryologe. His botanical author abbreviation is " Müll.Hal. ".

Mueller, who came from a humble background, completed a pharmacist teaching and worked for several years as a pharmacist. 1842 Müller worked in the pharmacy of Ernst Hampe and was enthusiastic about the Bryology. In 1843 he moved to Halle (Saale ), where he studied botany at Diederich Franz Leonhard von Schlechtendal. In 1847 he began publishing his Synopsis muscorum Frondosorum omnium hucusque cognitorum. The ideas of Charles Darwin, he refused.

While studying Müller wrote for the " Botanical newspaper" and from 1852 to 1896 he was editor in chief and with Otto Eduard Vincent Ule editor of the weekly magazine "Nature ".
