Karl Vollmöller (philologist)

Karl Vollmöller ( born October 16, 1848 in Ilsfeld, † July 8, 1922 in Dresden ) was a German linguist and Anglist. He was a professor of Romance languages ​​and English in Erlangen and Göttingen. As a patron of his hometown Ilsfeld he was appointed in 1906 there an honorary citizen.

Life

Karl Vollmöller was the son of businessman Rudolf Vollmöller (1818-1854) and Sophie Dallinger born Lust (1807-1874) born in Ilsfeld. He attended secondary school in Heilbronn and worked as a salesman from 1863 to 1867. 1868/69 he acquired in Stuttgart for university and studied from 1870 to 1872 in Tübingen from 1872 to 1873 then in Bonn and Munich classic, Germanistic and Romance Philology. In 1874 he moved to the Sorbonne in Paris.
