Karl von Wogau

Karl von Wogau ( born July 18, 1941 in Freiburg im Breisgau) was from 1979 to 2009 MEP of the CDU Baden -Württemberg and member of the Executive Board of the European People's Party. He is since 2010 Secretary General of the Kangaroo Group.

Biography

After studying law and economics in Freiburg, Munich and Bonn Wogau presented a history of law promotion on the constitutional front of Austria. In 1970 he received a business management training at the Institut européen d'administration des affaires ( INSEAD ) in Fontainebleau and passed the Second State Examination. In 1971 he received a diploma from INSEAD. In 1973 his doctorate.

From Wogau was 1971-1984 Manager at Sandoz AG in Basel and then joined as a partner in the law firm of Friedrich Graf von Westphalen in Freiburg im Breisgau one. 1991 to 2010 he was a member of the district board of the CDU South Baden.

In 1979, Karl von Wogau member of the first directly elected European Parliament, where he served until 2009.

In March 1984, he put together with his colleague Jacques Moreau a report on the " establishment of a single European market " before. This report was prepared to parliamentary trigger for the " Internal Market in 1992 ".

1994-1999 Chairman of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs and Industrial Policy. Rapporteur of the European Parliament during the special session of the European Parliament on Saturday 2 May 1998, the decision on the introduction of the euro.

2004-2009 Chairman of the Subcommittee on Security and Defence. Deputy. Member of the Committee of Foreign Affairs. A member of the Delegation for relations with the NATO. In 1979 he founded, together with Basil de Ferranti, Dieter Rogalla, Fernand Herman, Christiane Scrivener and Emile a Campo the Kangaroo Group, which advocates for the creation of the European single market, the stability of the European currency and a common foreign and defense policy of the European Union. Since 2010, Karl von Wogau Secretary General of the Kangaroo Group.

It was 1996, the Federal Cross of Merit 1st class, presented in 2001, the Medal of Merit of the State of Baden -Wuerttemberg and 2002, the Legion of Honour of the French Republic.
