Karttula

Karttula [ kɑrt ulɑ ː ] was a municipality in the administrative community Kuopio in the Finnish countryside Savo. January 1, 2011, it is part of the community Kuopio. At the time of incorporation Karttula counted 3514 inhabitants (as at 30 June 2010) to 588.75 km ² (of which 115.37 km ² inland water area). Karttula was monolingual Finnish.

The former municipality encompassed three population centers, all lined up on the road to Kuopio: the parish village of Karttula, Pihkainmäki and Syväinniemi. In addition, among the villages Airaksela, Haapamäki, Hakulila, Hautolahti, Humalaniemi, Joutsensalmi, Juurikkaniemi, Karttula, Keihästaival, Kemppaanmäki, Koivu Järvi, Koivulahti, Koskenkylä, Kuivaniemi, Kuttasalo, Käpysalo, Lietemäki, Lyytikkälä, Nuutila, Punnonmäki, Riitlampi, Riuttala, Salinmaa, Sammankontaus, Soidinlahti, Tallus, Utrianlahti, Vaarunjärvi, Valkeistaival, Viitataival it.

Karttula benefited from the proximity of Kuopio, the largest city in Eastern Finland, which lies 45 km east. In Karttula features many holiday homes ( mökki ), so that the population doubles in the summer by the holidaymakers almost. Attractions in Karttula are the house museum of Riuttala, the churches of Syvänniemi ( built in 1926 ) and Karttula (1930) and the orthodox prayer house of Syvänniemi.
