History
The province was created in 1966 by merging the provinces Lomami, Sud- Kasai ( South Kasai ) and parts of the province Sankuru.
Planned, never implemented division
With the adoption of a new constitution in May 2005, the Congo and Kasai Oriental regrouped should thereby be divided into three new provinces:
- Kasai Oriental, with its capital Mbuji -Mayi
- Lomami with capital Cabinda
- Sankuru with capital Lodja
After the appointment of the management change was previously postponed several times, President Joseph Kabila made this completely reversed in January 2011. This will continue to exist in its current form Kasai - Oriental.
