Kaspar Bausewein

Kaspar Bausewein (* November 15, 1838 in Aub / Franken, † November 18, 1903 in Munich) was longtime bass singer at the Munich Court Opera. His greatest successes he achieved in several Wagner premieres, but he was represented respectable even in buffo compartment.

As the son of a tailor Bausewein grew up in poverty. His attempted career goal as an elementary school teacher, he rejected, as his voice was discovered by the court conductor Franz Lachner. From then on he learned at the Munich educators Hart wrestler. Using its recommendation could Bausewein 1858 debut Sarastro in The Magic Flute at the Munich Court Opera, where he worked on it for almost half a century. His involvement in four Wagner premieres one of his biggest successes. So he sang the 1868 Veit Pogner in Die Meistersinger, 1869 the giant Fafner in Das Rheingold, 1870 Hunding in Die Walküre and 1888 to Harald in the posthumous premiere of Wagner's opera Die Feen youth. In buffo roles he gained the greatest popularity as van bed in Zar und Zimmermann ( Lortzingstraße ) and Basilio in The Barber of Seville ( Rossini ). In 1900 he gave his farewell performance in Munich as Lord Cockburn in Auber's Fra Diavolo.
