The Kastel castle is a ruined hill fort at 368.3 m above sea level. NN above Waldkirch in Baden-Württemberg Emmendingen. It stands on a hill 100 meters above the city of Waldkirch im Breisgau.

History

The Kastel castle was built in 1260-1270 by the Lords of Schwarzenberg. Like standing on the opposite side of the valley Schwarzburg them for defending the town Waldkirch, and control over the trade route through the Elz Valley.

First inhabitants of the castle was John I of Schwarzenberg. The Schwarzenberger already died out in 1345, the castle was sold to Martin Malterer from Freiburg, who fell in the Battle of Sempach in 1386. 1429 the castle came to Berthold of Swabia.

In the Thirty Years ' War the castle was destroyed by imperial troops on March 14, 1634 so as not to have to leave the advancing Swedish army.

In recent years, attempts to ruin that is romantic about the Waldkircher Old Town to secure structurally (Action Kastelburg ).
