Katharina Reiss

Catherine tear ( born April 17, 1923 in Rhine Oberhausen) is a German translator and translation scholar who has done their work on skopos theory as well as to text types and translation methods pioneered in the field of translation studies.

Life

Catherine tear taught from 1944 to 1970 on Interpreting Institute, University of Heidelberg. In 1954 she graduated with a thesis on the Spanish writer and journalist Clarín. In 1965 she took over the function of the Academic Counsellor and Head of the Spanish Department of the interpreter Institute. In 1970, she joined as Academic Oberrätin and later as Academic Director of the Romanesque Department of the University of Würzburg. Vermeer it is regarded as the founder of skopos theory. In order to standardize the terminology in translation science, it suggests in its Habitilationsschrift text type and translation method. The operative text. a classification of the text present in four text types. On the basis of the Organon model of Karl Bühler, the texts are distinguished according to their respective functions.
