Kathleen Richardson, Baroness Richardson of Calow

The Rev'd Kathleen Margaret Richardson, Baroness Richardson of Calow OBE ( born February 24, 1938) is a British Methodist clergy and Life Peeress.

Life and career

From 1958 to 1961 she worked as a teacher at the Hollingwood Secondary School in Chesterfield. In the Methodist Church, she was 1961-1964 deaconess of Wesley. From 1973 to 1977 she was pastor of the Methodist Church of East Stevenage.

Richardson was pastor from 1979 to 1986 in West Yorks. From 1987 to 1995 she was president ( chairman ) of the West Yorks District Methodist Church. She was the first woman President of the Methodist Conference from 1992 to 1993. From 1995 to 1999 she was the moderator of the Free Churches Council and President of Churches Together in England. In the Churches Commission for Inter -faith Relations Richardson was presenter of 2000 to 2006. Currently, she is vice president of the Council for Christians and Jews.

Membership in the House of Lords

Richardson was appointed Life Peeress as Baroness Richardson of Calow, of Calow in the County of Derbyshire, on 3 August 1998. Your official introduction to the House of Lords took place on 12 October 1998.

There she sits as a Cross Bencher. Your inauguration, she held on April 26, 1999.

She currently directs a public inquiry into the death of Robert Hamill. In 2009 she took part in any vote.

Honors

Richardson was awarded in 1996 the Order of the British Empire. In 2007 she was made an honorary member of the Rotary Club in Southgate.

She has received several honorary doctorates. The University of Bradford drew from a Doctor of Letters ( Hon DLitt ). The University of Liverpool, she received a Doctor of Laws ( Hon LLD). In 2000, she drew from the University of Birmingham with a Doctor of Divinity ( honorary doctor of theology ) ( Hon DD).
