The airfield Ansbach - Katterbach is a military airfield four kilometers east of Ansbach. The former air base for the Air Force is now used as helipad by the United States Army (U.S. Army ). The Americans call the base as Ansbach Army Heli Pad ( Ansbach AHP ), the associated Barracks are the Katterbach and the Bismarck Kaserne. The square is the main place of use of the stationed in Europe CH -47 and UH- 60 transport helicopter of the U.S. Army, the AH -64 helicopter gunships are stationed at nearby Illes home. Both airfields are part of the U.S. Army Garrison ( USAG ) Ansbach.

Current usage

The base currently houses (2012 ) five companies ( companies ) transport helicopters, which are divided into two regiments:

  • 3- 158th Aviation Regiment ( AVN), equipped with the UH -60 ( two companies )
  • 5 - 158th Aviation Regiment ( AVN), equipped with the UH -60 (two each ) and CH -47 ( a company )
