The airfield Illes home is a military airfield just south of Illes home. The former airbase of the Luftwaffe (home Horst III. / Battle Squadron 2) is now used as helipad by the United States Army (U.S. Army ). The Americans call the base as Illesheim Army Heliport (Illes Home AHP), the corresponding barracks building Storck Barracks. The square is the main place of use of the Europe based AH -64 attack helicopter of the U.S. Army, the CH -47 and the majority of the UH- 60 transport helicopters are stationed at nearby Ansbach - Katterbach. Both airfields are part of the U.S. Army Garrison ( USAG ) Ansbach.

Current usage

The base currently houses (2012 ) six companies ( companies ) AH -64 attack helicopters, which are divided equally between two regiments:

  • 2- 159th Aviation Regiment ( AVN)
  • 3- 159th Aviation Regiment ( AVN)
