Kaya (Burkina Faso)

Kaya is one of the largest cities in the West African republic of Burkina Faso.

Kaya is the capital of the region Centre- North and the province Sanmatenga and is located about 100 km north -east of Ouagadougou, capital of Burkina Faso. In addition, an eponymous department, which includes the same area as that of the commune urbaine Kaya exists. The city is divided into seven sectors.

The city proper has 40,900 inhabitants (calculated 2007).

The commune urbaine Kaya has in the main town and the corresponding 70 villages 114 807 inhabitants ( 2006 census ).

Economy

Kaya is known for its shoemakers and fine goatskin work, so there is also a large market for fur and leather processing.
