Kayak (band)

Kayak is a Dutch art-rock band. They drew attention to himself, especially during the 1970s. Hits like Starlight Dancer or Ruthless Queen made ​​internationally known music group from Hilversum.

Band History

After the dissolution of the band in the late 1990s formed new again. The Reunion also Max Werner was there, who was from 1972 to 1981 singer with Kayak, due to a solo career, but the group had left.

Style

Previously, members had to tone Scherpenzeel, who played in the meantime at Camel and the classical project " Kajem " initiated, brought no more album on the market since 1981 ( "Merlin "). " Nostradamus: The Fate of Man " is also a soundtrack to the eponymous musical production. This was performed in the years 2004 and 2005 in 32 Dutch cities with great success with 13 participants.

In January 2008, the studio album "Coming up for air" appeared with different lead singers who have already proven itself in the unplugged project " KAYAKoustic " and the elaborately staged " Nostradamus " tour, inter alia is again the longtime singer ( and successor by Max Werner) Edward Reekers it with. Kayak celebrated with the October 2008 taking place from January, " Coming up for air " tour its 35th anniversary on stage. The subsequently published compilation " The Anniversary Box 1973-2008 " contains a cross section of musical creativity as well as a DVD with the recording of the final concert of the tour, recorded at the Paradiso / Amsterdam.

In the same line- Kayak published in September 2009, their album " Letters from Utopia ", which consists of 19 tracks spread over two CDs. The corresponding tour led again by numerous Dutch towns and took place in the last quarter of 2009.

On November 23, 2009 died Pim Koopman, the drummer of the band, of sudden cardiac death. All still forthcoming fixtures of the current tour were subsequently canceled.
