Kayser–Fleischer ring

The Kayser- Fleischer ring ( = cornea cornea) is a change in the cornea of ​​the eye in the course of Wilson's disease, an inherited metabolic disorder of copper overload in the body. At the edge of the cornea in this case a greenish, sometimes towards brown gambling ring formed by deposition of copper in Descemet's membrane. The ring shall be not fully closed. Is named in honor of the Kornealring German ophthalmologists Bernhard Kayser and Bruno Fleischer, who described him in 1902 or 1903.

" Kayser- Fleischer rings " should not be confused with the " Fleischer rings " that can occur in keratoconus. There is an increased deposition of iron from the tear film.
