Kazan Helicopters

Kazan Helicopters (Russian OAO Казанский вертолётный завод / transcription OAO Kasanski wertoljotni zavod; German Kazan helicopter factory AG ) is a Russian helicopter manufacturer based in the city of Kazan, Tatarstan.

History

The company was founded in 1933 as a wood processing plant. It began during World War II in 1941 with the production of the aircraft Polikarpov Po -2. Since 1951, the plant also produces helicopters, first the Mil Mi -1, from 1965, the Mil Mi -8, the now most widely used helicopter in the world.

For the 60th anniversary of the founding of the USSR the factory was named " Казанского вертолетного производственного объединения имени 60 - летия СССР " / transcription Kasanskowo wertoljotnowo proiswodstwennowo objedinjenija imeni 60 - letija SSSR (German: Kazan Helicopter Production Association named 60 years USSR).

In 1993 the factory was privatized and transformed into a joint stock company with the name Kasanski wertoljotni zavod, which took the full legal successor of the company. In order to make the step from a pure producer to developers of helicopters, the work in the sequence a helicopter construction office was affiliated.

Products

Overall, Mil Mi -4, Mil Mi-8, Mil Mi- 14 Mil Mi -17 and their modifications over 10,000 machines in Kazan Helicopters were upon the types manufactured and part of it exported to more than 80 countries. When helicopter manufacturing the Republic of Tatarstan supplies about 17 percent of the world market.
