Griboyedov Canal

The bridge Kazan (Russian Казанский мост ) is a 18.8 meter long and 95 meter wide bridge across the Griboyedov Canal in Saint Petersburg ( Russia). In addition to the Green Bridge and the Anitschkow Bridge is one of three river crossings on the course of the Nevsky Prospect.

The bridge was built in 1716 during the laying of the former Nevsky Perspektivstrasse and originally represented, as the other two road bridges on the later brochure, a simple wooden bridge represents the perspective road bridged in this area, the river Kriwuscha whose bed until 1739 for the laying of the Griboyedov channel ( until 1923: Catherine channel) was used. 1737 named to the previously unnamed bridge in Rozhdestvensky Most ( мост Рождественский to German "Christmas Bridge"), as in the immediate vicinity was later worn Nativity Church. The present name was given to rebuilding the bridge at the beginning of the 19th century, as in the immediate vicinity at the same time, the still existing Kazan Cathedral was built on the site of the old Nativity Church. 1923-1944 was the bridge Plekhanov Bridge ( Мост Плеханова ) in honor of the socialist philosopher Georgi Plekhanov.
