Griboyedov Canal

The Griboyedov Canal (Russian Канал Грибоедова ) was built in 1739 under the name Catherine channel. It follows the course of the river Kriwuscha and today is the middle of three main channels through the center of Saint Petersburg. It was named in 1923 after the writer and diplomat Alexander Griboyedov, who lived from 1816 to 1818 in one of the houses on the canal.
