Kazimierz Twardowski

Kazimierz Jerzy Skrzypna - Twardowski, Ritter von Ogończyk, ( born October 20, 1866 in Vienna, † February 11, 1938 in Lviv ) was a Polish philosopher and logician.

Life

Twardowski studied in Vienna with Franz Brentano and Robert Zimmermann philosophy. In 1892 he completed his dissertation on About the difference between the clear and distinct perception and the clear and distinct idea in Descartes and has his doctorate. In 1894 he submitted his habilitation thesis to theory of the content and subject matter of the representations. In the following year he lectured in Vienna, to a chair of philosophy in Lviv, he was offered in 1895, where he remained until his death.

Through his work there Twardowski laid the foundation for the mathematical, logical and philosophically fruitful Lvov -Warsaw School. His students included, among others, Stanisław Leśniewski and Jan Łukasiewicz.

Philosophically, it considered the Brentano school that an idea must have an object of the imagination forever.
