Keene is a city ( City ) in New Hampshire in the United States and the administrative seat of Cheshire County with 22,770 residents.
History
The settlement Keene has been around since 1736. 1753 it was registered as a Town and has the status of a city since 1874.
Keene in the film
The film Jumanji in 1995 was turned into a major part in Keene. In the film, the city has a fictitious name Brantford.
Geography
Keene has an area of 97.3 km ², of which 0.6 km ² (0.67 %) of water and 96.6 km ² land area. The highest point in the city area is located in the northwestern city Grays Hill ( 423 m). Keene lies mostly in the basin of the river Ashuelot, which flows into the Connecticut River, but a small part of the northwestern city also lies in its direct catchment area.

Education
The largest educational institution in Keene, the Keene State College with more than 5000 students. Since this is equivalent to around a quarter of the population of Keene, the city is referred to as small university town. Furthermore, the private entity Antioch University New England is in Keene. As public bodies nor the Keene High School and several elementary and middle schools are added. Therefore Keene is considered primate city in Cheshire County.
