Kees Boeke

Cornelis " Kees " Boeke ( born September 29, 1884 in Alkmaar, † July 3, 1966 in Abcoude ) was a Dutch educational reformer.

Life

Boeke studied at the University of London. Together with Helene Stöcker and Wilfred Wellock he founded in 1921 in Bilthoven " Paco" (peace in Esperanto ), later War Resisters' International ( WRI). In 1926 he established in Bilthoven Utrecht reform school Werkplaats Kindergemeenschap that had inspired among others by the ideas of the Quakers, and of which he until 1954 innehatte.Auch three children of Queen Juliana were informed of this at times, as well as the later Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands.

Boeke further developed the concept of sociocracy that is used among other things in Iederwijs schools.
