Kees Schouhamer Immink

Kees A. Schouhamer Immink (born 18 December 1946 in Rotterdam) is a Dutch engineer and co-inventor of the compact disc, DVD and Blu- Ray disc.

Life and work

Immink studied electrical engineering at the Technical University of Eindhoven. In 1985 he received his doctorate with a thesis on coding theory and information theory to the doctor.

From 1967 on, he worked at the Philips Research Laboratories in Eindhoven until 1998. He is from the founding in 1998 of the President of Turing Machines Inc. Since 1993, he also takes a visiting professor at the Institute for Experimental Mathematics ( IEM) at the University of Duisburg -Essen in Essen true. He was president of the Audio Engineering Society 2001-2002.

Immink had filed in the course of his life more than 1000 international patents, the most famous was his Miterfindung the compact disc, DVD and Blu -Ray. From the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences ( NATAS ) in New York, he received an Emmy Award for Coding Technology for Optical Recording format 2003.
