Keith Mitchell

Keith Claudius Mitchell ( born November 12, 1946 in Happy Hill, parish of St. George's, Grenada) from 1995 to 2008 and since 2013 again Prime Minister of Grenada.

His party, the New National Party ( NNP), holds in parliament since the election of 19 February 2013, all 15 seats.

Biography

Dr The Rt Hon Keith C. Mitchell, son of Dowlyn and Catherine Mitchell, graduated from the primary school to the " Happy Hill Roman Catholic School " and the " JW Fletcher Memorial School ". His secondary education was at the " Presentation Brothers College ". He studied from 1967 to 1971 Mathematics and Chemistry at the campus in West Hill ( Barbados) West Indian University and graduated as a Bachelor of Science degree followed by a postgraduate degree in mathematics at Howard University since 1973, he in 1975 with the Master's degree. In the meantime he taught from 1972 to 1973 and the " Presentation Brothers College ". Immediately after his Howard studies, he completed further studies at the American University for obtaining the doctorate of Mathematics and Statistics ( 1979). Since 1977 he held the chair of mathematics, which he held until 1983 at Howard University.

Mitchell is married and has a son.

Political Offices and Duties

Dr. Mitchell has also worked as a qualified adviser to several U.S. government departments and private organizations in the United States before he returned to Grenada, where he worked for St. George's West stopped off as a Member of Parliament in the House of Representatives in 1984, where he served for 20 years. He was from 1988 to 1989 Minister of Communications, Employment, Public Institutions, Cooperatives, Women's Affairs and Civil Aviation of the NNP. With the reset of the NNP in the opposition role In 1989 he was determined to party leader and helped the party to electoral victory in 1995.

On 22 June 1995, he became Prime Minister of Grenada and Minister responsible for the areas of national security, mobilization, Carriacou and Petit Martinique Affairs, Finance, Trade, Industry and Planning, Information gathering and foreign affairs for the first time. 1999 won the NNP again, this time in all 15 constituencies. In continuation of his duties as prime minister, he was in this term initially responsible for the areas of national security, finance, trade, industry and planning and information, and later in charge of national security and information.

In the third Parliament catchment as the ruling party in consequence Mitchell was prime minister again and was now responsible for homeland security, human resource development, information, information and communication technology, the economy, private economy, youth development. He further development of human resource for the Caribbean Community and Common Market (CARICOM ) was in charge since July 1995 for Science, Technology.

After the defeat of his NNP against the former opposition party the New Democratic Party in elections to the House of Representatives on July 8, 2008, he lost his position as Prime Minister to the Chairman of the NDC, Tillman Thomas.

After the electoral victory of the NNP of 19 February 2013, was again on February 20, 2013 Prime Minister.

Mitchell was from January 1998 to December 2004 Chairman of CARICOM, from May 1997 to May 1998 Board of Directors of the Caribbean Development Bank, 1996-1997 Chairman of the Association of Caribbean States Board, May 2000 to January 2002 Chairman of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States and from April 2001 to March 2002 Chairman of the Regional Security system.

Since 1964 he is an active cricket athletes and is now a very for this sport. Among other things, he is the Chairman of premierministriellen Cricket Sub-Committee of CARICOM.
