Kellenried Abbey

The St. Erentraud abbey in the district Kellenried Berg municipality in Ravensburg was founded in 1924 as a Benedictine monastery of the Congregation Beuronese.

Overview

The first sisters came from the monastery of St. Hemma in Gurk, Carinthia, and from the Abbey of St. Gabriel, Bertholdstein. It was named after the monastery of the Holy Erentraud, the first abbess of the Benedictine Abbey Nonnberg in Salzburg.

The Abbey Church of St. Erentraud was 1923/24, built in barockisierendem style of Adolf J. Lorenz on the western ridge of the Schussen. In 1926 the convent to abbey was charged. From 1940 to 1945, the sisters were expelled by the Nazis from the monastery. The present monastery is recognized as a cultural monument. 2011 integration of a guest wing has been realized with twelve single and two double Four bedrooms in the existing monastery.

The Abbey has a Baroque Christmas crib, the oldest figures of the 17th century come and which is issued each year from Christmas to February 2.

The sisters run several handcraft shops and a guest house. In the monastery shop in Kellenried among other Nativity figurines and candles from our own handicraft production are offered.

2010 " Foundation for the Abbey Kellenried " was founded.
