Kempinski Hotels S. A. is the oldest European luxury hotel group with headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. It is a subsidiary of the Kempinski AG in Munich, Germany. The Hotel Group is a founding member of the hotel network Global Hotel Alliance (GHA ). The largest shareholder of AG is the Thai Crown Property Bureau.

Company Profile

Each of the 5 -star hotels has its own style and character and is very difficult to compare with the other houses. The portfolio includes Hotels, Grand Hotels and Holiday Resorts and residences.

The Kempinski hotels are located primarily in Europe but also in Africa, the Near and Middle East and Asia. China in particular is a priority region for the opening of new stores. Kempinski operates 73 five star hotels in 31 countries as of Feb.2014.

With the exception of the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten in Munich, which is owned by the group, as well as leased the Hotel Adlon in Berlin, Grand Hotel des Bains in St. Moritz and the leased Palais Hansen in Vienna hotels the focus of the Kempinski is located on the pure management of luxury hotels, most of which are privately owned.

The Adlon in Berlin and the Villa Rothschild in Königstein have the status of "Leading Hotels of the World " ( LHW) Status:. March 2014, the Hotel Bristol in Berlin was renovated in 2008 for about 10 million euros. However, it lost the 2009 Status Leading Hotels of the World ( LHW): The rationale at that time were poor quality. The Kempinski Hotel Taschenbergpalais in Dresden and Castle Reinhartshausen Eltville - Erbach Hotels in solidarity are then excreted at Leading.

History

M. Kempinski & Co

Berthold Kempinski had founded in 1862 a wine shop in his hometown Raschkow in Poznan and traded with Hungarian wines. After the proclamation of the Empire, he moved to Berlin in 1872 and founded a snack with wine tasting room, a wine shop in Friedrichstraße 76 As Berthold Kempinski and Helena had no male offspring, she took her son Richard Unger on in the operation. Later she gave him the company under the condition of maintaining the Kempinski name. Died in 1910 Berthold Kempinski.

In addition to some great restaurants, another was opened in 1927 at Kurfürstendamm 27. There now stands the Hotel Bristol. 1928 took over the Kempinski Haus Vaterland at Potsdamer Platz. The Wine House Kempinski went on 1 May 1937, all of its operations under the approval of the competent party services in "Aryan" hands on. Purchaser was the M. Kempinski & Co., Wine House and Handels-GmbH, which will continue the tradition of their previous holdings accordingly. This was announced by the Gau Economics Adviser of the Greater Berlin Gau of the NSDAP.

Richard Unger emigrated during World War II with his family in the U.S. and M. Kempinski & Co became part of the Aschingers AG. A fire destroyed the restaurant at Kurfürstendamm 27 Many members of the once successful Kempinski were persecuted by the Nazis and killed in concentration camps. Berthold Kempinski's grandson Frederick Unger, built in 1951, Hotel on the recycled plot at Kurfürstendamm 27 Kempinski opened in 1952. Friedrich Unger sold his shares in 1953 and the name Kempinski Hotel at the operating AG.

Hotel -Aktiengesellschaft

The company was founded in 1897 by Leopold Koppel. It has become the leading hotel operator in Berlin. Among the operated luxury hotels including the Hotel Bristol, Hotel Bellevue and Central Hotel ( with the vaudeville conservatory ), as well as cafes upmarket as the Café Kranzler and the Café Bauer.

In 1926 Aschingers majority stake in the corporation. 1927 was a takeover of the Berlin hotel company with the Kaiserhof and Baltic. In 1949 an expropriation by the magistrate East Berlin. This is followed by modest beginnings in West Berlin and West Germany. In 1953 it came to the acquisition of the Hotel Kempinski on Kurfürstendamm. Kempinski acquired in 1957, the Hotel Atlantic in Hamburg. The Annual General Meeting 1970, the name was changed to Kempinski Hotel Operating AG. Kempinski contribute with 50 % of the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten in Munich.

The company was renamed in 1977 in Kempinski AG. The hotel Grave break in Neu-Isenburg near Frankfurt will be the fourth German hotel in the portfolio. Lufthansa acquired 1985 shares in Kempinski Hotel and enables the company to operate abroad hotels. In 1986, the Kempinski Hotels SA was created in Geneva as a support organization. On 9 September 1999, the Kempinski Hotel Falkenstein opened as a third house of the chain in the Rhine- Main area. The main shareholders decided in August 2002 to acquire the remaining 1.8% of the shares of the minority shareholders.

Today, Kempinski is majority owned by the Crown Property Bureau, Thai, asset management of the royal family. In total, 79 hotels in 31 countries, the portfolio of luxury hotel group (as of March 2013).
