Ken Hyder

Ken Hyder ( born June 29, 1946 in Dundee, Scotland, UK ) is a British ethno-jazz musicians ( drums, percussion, composer ).

Life and work

Hyder began as a teenager, first under the influence of Elvin Jones and Paul Motian playing the drums. He discovered the potential of Scottish folk music to jazz. In the late 1960s, he put together the group Talisker, which occurred regularly at the Little Theatre Club in London and the crossover from free jazz and Celtic music dedicated. He took the band on several boards and toured throughout Europe. Later, he was also interested in the music of the Inuit and the throat singing, as practiced in Tuva. In the Bardo State Orchestra that performed well recordings with monks from Tibet, Jim Dvorak, Marcio Mattos and he the energetic similarities of free jazz and Tibetan music worked out convincingly. In addition, he recorded with Maggie Nicols, with Sainkho Namtchylak with Tim Hodgkinson and Elton Dean.
