Kenan ÅžimÅŸek

Kenan Şimşek ( born June 1, 1968) is a former Turkish wrestler.

Career

Kenan Simsek began as a teenager with the Turkish national sport of oil wrestling. From the age of 17 he trained in addition, the Olympic rings. The club, which he joined was, " Buyuksehyr Belediyesi " Ankara. He wrestled exclusively in free style light heavyweight and heavyweight. His coach, who systematically took him to the Turkish top class, Muhammed Oruc was.

His debut with the senior international championships were Kenan 1990 at the European Championships in Poznan with an excellent 3rd place in the light heavyweight division. Not quite as good as he cut off at the World Championships the same year in Tokyo, but came to a respectable 6th place.

In 1991 he won at the Mediterranean Games in the light heavyweight, was not at the European Championships at the start and came at the World Championships in Varna back to sixth place.

The year 1992 was the most successful of his career. He finished at the European Championships in Kaposvar by defeating Bajew Kaloyan, Bulgaria, third place. At the Olympic Games in Barcelona, he fought in the light heavyweight division to the finals, but had there against the multiple world champion Maharbeg Kadarzew from Russia no chance, even though he lost only 0-1 points. The silver medal was the reward for his good fights.

Also at the European Championships in Istanbul in 1993 there was Kenan 3rd place medal, with its 0:1 point defeat against Zaza Turmanidze from Georgia in the pool finale was very controversial. Most wrestlers professionals had Kenan seen as the winner.

The bronze medal of the European Championships in 1993 was the last medal that he won an international championship. In 1998, he finished his career wrestler, but was for many years active as an oil wrestler and were herein several times Turkish heavyweight champion.

Kenan Simsek was well known in Germany, because he wrestled for several years for the SV " Siegfried" Hallbergmoos in the Bundesliga.
