Kenneth Best

Kenneth Y. Best (born 28 October 1938 Harrisburg ) is an African journalist, Liberians in the Monrovia ( Liberia), the newspaper The Daily Observer and later a newspaper of the same name in Banjul ( Gambia) founded.

Life

Best was the nephew of the Americo -Liberian and Caribbean journalists Albert Porte.

In February 1981 the Best Daily Observer, one of the first newspapers in Liberia founded. Under the presidency of Samuel Doe of the Daily Observer was the subject of prolonged political bullying.

The First Liberian Civil War prompted Best with his family to go to Gambia. There he founded Gambia's first daily newspaper published and called them again The Daily Observer. In October 1994, after the military coup Yahya Jammeh, Best was expelled from Gambia. The newspaper continued to be printed and published until today. He moved with his family to the United States.

Awards

Best was awarded in 2000 by the International Press Institute with the entries among the 50 Heroes of World Press Freedom.
