Kenneth Oppel

Kenneth Oppel ( born August 31, 1967 in Port Alberni, British Columbia) is a Canadian fantasy and science fiction writer.

Kenneth Oppel grew up in Victoria and Halifax, spent part of his youth but also in Labrador, England and Ireland. During his high school years he wrote at age 15 his first children's book Colin 's Fantastic Video Adventure. A friend sent the manuscript to the agent by Roald Dahl, who helped the book for publication (1985). After studying at the University of Toronto (English and Film Studies ) and a short stint at a publisher Oppel opted for a career as a writer. Oppel lives with his wife Philippa Sheppard and his three children in Toronto, Ontario.

His most famous work is the bat - books that tell the adventures of young bats in three volumes in child-friendly language and have some fantasy elements. The fourth book in the series, Darkwing, is 65 million years in the past and tells how the first bat discovers that she has the gift of flight.

The latest books Oppel act of the youth Victor Frankenstein, the Oppel processed free after the original version of Mary Shelley in a trilogy. Two of the three planned volumes have already appeared.
