Kenneth Utt

Kenneth Utt ( born July 13, 1921 in Winston- Salem, North Carolina; † January 19, 1994 in New York City ) was an American film producer.

Life

Utt studied at Elon College in North Carolina. He then received a scholarship to the Juilliard School. Utt wanted to be an opera singer.

During the Second World War Utt served in the United States Army Air Corps. After the war he went to New York and worked as an actor in theater, radio, television and film. Utt took a job as a stage manager on Broadway and then went to the early 1960s as a production manager and producer for television. As the transition to the 1970s, he was involved as a producer of movies, first as an associate producer. Utt was witerhin also worked as a production manager.

Starting with Something Wild in 1986, he produced several films by the director Jonathan Demme. The highlight of this cooperation was the multiple Academy Award-winning film The Silence of the Lambs from the year 1991.

He was awarded with Edward Saxon and Ron Bozman for the production of The Silence of the Lambs with the Academy Award for Best Picture in 1992. In addition, they received the Directors Guild of America Award. The producers of the film were each honored as Motion Picture Producer of the Year.

Utt was married and the father of two children.
