Kenya Civil Aviation Authority

Kenya Civil Aviation Authority ( KCAA ) is a Kenyan authority based in Nairobi whose competence among others, the civilian air traffic control and the regulation of the aviation industry in Kenya falls.

The Authority provides the East African School of Aviation also education and training for aviation personnel.

History

1946 founded the colonial governments of Kenya, Uganda, Tanganyika and Zanzibar, the East African Directorate of Civil Aviation ( EADCA ). With the collapse of the East African Community ( EAC) in June 1977, established the East African countries have their own civil aviation authorities. On December 16, 1977, the Kenya Directorate of Civil Aviation ( DCA) has been established.

On 24 October 2002, the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority ( KCAA ) was established as an independent body and thus took over the responsibilities of the DCA.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Authority shall include the development, management and regulation of a safe, economical and efficient system for civil aviation in Kenya.

This includes, among other things, the performance of tasks of air traffic control and the provision of the necessary infrastructure, flight safety, licensing of air services, registration of aircraft identification, investigation of aircraft accidents and incidents, aviation security, technical regulation and certification, as well as advising the government in matters of civil aviation.
