Keteleeria fortunei

Keteleeria fortunei is a species in the genus Keteleeria of the family (Pinaceae ).

Dissemination

The home of this species is in northern Vietnam and China in the provinces of Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Hunan, Jiangxi, Yunnan and Zhejiang. The deposits are located at altitudes 200-1400 m.

Description

Keteleeria fortunei is an evergreen tree that stature heights of 25 to 30 meters in trunk diameter can reach up to 1 m. He forms a pyramidal crown with horizontally spreading branches. The bark is dark gray and furrowed vertically. The bark of the young twigs are orange and hairy; in the second or third year they are yellow -gray to yellow-brown. The needles are 1.2 to 3 cm long and about 2 to 4 mm wide; they are dark green on top and pale green on the underside. The cones are cylindrical in shape and stand upright on the branch. The pins 6 to 18 cm in length and 3 to 5 cm wide; after opening they are up to 7.5 cm wide. The seeds are about 2 cm long, with a 3 cm long wings.

Use

Keteleeria fortunei planted in warm regions as a park tree. The wood is used as timber and for furniture.

Naming

Keteleeria fortunei is named after the Scottish botanist Robert Fortune, who discovered the tree in 1844.
