About Blueberry River, Shell River and Crow Wing River, it is part of the watershed of the Mississippi River and drains a rural area.

The Kettle River rises about two miles south of Wolf Lake in Spruce Grove Township in the southeast of Becker County. He always flows eastward through the Runeberg Township in the north-west of Wadena County and empties into the Blueberry Township, about three kilometers west of Menahga in the Blueberry River. The Kettle River flows through an ecoregion of northern lakes and forests that grow by coniferous and hardwood forests on flat and undulating ground moraines and Sandern.
