Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan

Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan ( born January 25, 1948 in Al Ain, Arab خليفة بن زايد بن سلطان آل نهيان, DMG Halifa bin Sultan Al Nahyan bin Zāyid, also Khalifa bin Zayed ) is the eldest son of Zayed bin Sultan al Nahyan and Schaicha Hassah bin Muhammad bin Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. His brother Muhammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Since November 3, 2004, he is the President of the United Arab Emirates. He also took his late father the day before the Office. He had already temporarily out government business because of the illness of his father. He is also the Emir and Prime Minister of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

After the acquisition of sovereignty over Abu Dhabi on September 18, 1966 by his father Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan was appointed representative in the eastern district of the emirate of Abu Dhabi, with the administrative center of Al Ain, and on 1 February 1969, his successor. As on February 2, 1969, the armed forces for Abu Dhabi were set up, he was defense minister and oversaw the construction of the military.

In the reorganization of the government of Abu Dhabi on 1 July 1971, he became prime minister and finance and defense minister. At the founding of the UAE on December 2, 1971, he was appointed Prime Minister of the UAE, his father became president. In May 1976, he took over the post of the Deputy Commander of the armed forces that were split before that date under the Emirates and were under the command of the respective individual emirates.

He's since the 1980s, Chairman of the Supreme Petroleum Council, which has a major power in energy issues. With an estimated fortune of $ 15 billion, he was according to the Forbes Magazine 2011, the fourth-richest monarch in the world.

Sheikh Khalifa is known for his interest in typical sports, mainly horse and camel races.

At the opening of the Burj Dubai on 4 January 2010 it was announced that the tallest building in the world will be renamed after him in Burj Khalifa.
