Kibungo

Kibungo is a city in Ngoma district in the Eastern Province in Rwanda and was until the dissolution of Kibungo province 2006 capital thereof. Kibungo located about 100 kilometers from Kigali, on the main road to Tanzania. 2008 Kibungo had 48 137 inhabitants.

The population lives mainly from agriculture. Products are beans, maize, sorghum, bananas and vegetables. These cattle, goats and sheep are kept.

Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Kibungo was until 2010 Kizito Bahujimihigo. There is a much smaller Anglican diocese.

The town has a hospital and a university in the fields of agriculture, technology and education.
