Kiko (footballer)

Francisco Miguel Narváez Machón ( born April 26, 1972 in Jerez ), called Kiko, is a former Spanish footballer.

Career

Association

Kiko played in his youth for the biggest club of his home province, FC Cadiz. For the season 1990/91 he was appointed to the first team of the club. On April 14, 1991, he denied in the context of a 2:3 defeat against Athletic Bilbao his first match in La Liga. Although he only played five games during the season, he wore at the end significantly to the relegation of the club: At the decisive last match he came on in the 65th minute with the score at 0-1 against Real Zaragoza, his team helped with a caused him to foul penalty to compensate and hit himself in stoppage time in a 2-1 victory, after which they left the relegation zone at the last second and reached a relegation place. In the playoffs against CD Málaga Cadiz was on penalties winner and kept the class.

In the 1991/92 season Kiko rose to become the undisputed master player, a performer of his team and was first appointed to the national team. After the descent in the season 1992/93 he left the FC Cadiz and signed a contract with Atlético Madrid. In the capital club Kiko became one of the most prominent Spanish footballer of the nineties. With numerous goals and assists, he was instrumental in Atlético's historic Double - 1995/96 season, when they won the league and cup double.

After the descent in the 1999/2000 season Kiko denied even a second division game time with the people of Madrid. He subsequently played for six months for the FC Extremadura, before he ended his career due to persistent ankle problems at the age of 30 years.

National

Kiko went through the youth teams of his country and took part in the 1992 Summer Olympics. He scored five goals in the tournament, including two within the 3-2 final victory against Poland and won with his team the gold medal.

Kiko's debut for the Spanish national team took place on 16 December 1992 in a World Cup qualifier against Latvia. With Spain, he participated in the 1996 European Championships and 1998 World Cup. Overall, Kiko played 26 international matches and scored five goals.
